Material benang juga memberi kesan kepada kualiti jahitan sulaman tangan. Sebagai contohnya, dalam sesuatu corak sulaman tangan, biasanya material kapas digunakan untuk menghasilkan bunga-bungaan sulam. Namun, jika elemen material yang lain digunakan, pastinya memberi impak dalam kualiti sulaman tangan itu sendiri.

Baru-baru ini, ada seorang kenalan bertanya kepada saya supaya material sulaman tangan diubah daripada material kapas kepada material poliester ataupun nilon. Pada mulanya saya sedikit terkejut kerana biasanya saya menggunakan material kapas yang lembut tetapi cadangan kenalan tadi menjadikan cabaran kepada saya dalam menghasilkan bunga sulaman tangan. Walaupun begitu, saya mencubanya dengan menggunakan benang nilon yang biasanya digunakan untuk menghasilkan kuilt atau kait.
Hasil Sulaman Tangan Sedikit Keras tetapi Menarik
Rasa teruja juga setelah bunga sulaman tangan diperbuat daripada benang nilon tersebut siap. Walau pun hasil sulamannya sedikit keras, ia terhasil ibarat bunga stoking yang cantik. Itulah uniknya sulaman tangan jika dihasilkan menggunakan benang nilon dan diadun dengan sedikit kreativiti.
Kelopak bunga sulaman tangan akan nampak tegap dan kukuh berbanding dengan sulaman tangan yang diperbuat daripada benang kapas ataupun benang sutera. Apa pun material yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan sulaman tangan ini, ia dapat dibezakan dengan teknik-teknik penghasilan bunga sulam yang pelbagai bentuk.

Itulah yang menjadikan hasil sulaman tangan ini nampak lebih unik dan menarik walaupun ia hanya bermula dengan teknik-teknik asas seperti bulion dan tali air.
